i don't know why but i always constantly swell up and feel like yelling EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE when this happens

one of the best moments of my day is when someone on a conference call asks someone else a question, doesn't get a reply, assumes they're on mute, and nothing ever happens, ever again

haha when i said the stickers were going to go out today, what i meant was that, the me from tomorrow would be the one saying they were going out today.

me from yesterday didn't know that today me doesn't have stamps, so, you know.

however i am feeling infinitely more productive having a tool in front of me to visualize songs and pieces of songs that are available for tooling with. this definitely helps affirm an overall visual of what needs to be locked down vs. what's floating around.

this can be especially useful when you have people writing a bunch of 30-second pieces that might not tie into anything

being able to also embed youtube videos for stylistic and tonal references is really really helpful too

i ended up giving in and setting up a trello board or two for the music stuff i wanted to do, and honestly

the fact that trello doesn't have inline chat sans integration is kind of maddening

I'm extremely pleased to launch Run Your Own Social: How to run a small social network site for you friends.

This is a guide book to running a small, tight-knit federated social network server. It comes from my year of experience running Friend Camp. It's focused largely on SOCIAL solutions, though it does touch on the technical.

I've tried to keep it technology-neutral, and it should be a pretty easy read for anyone who's been on the fediverse for a while.

pining for this collaborative music platform is definitely a mood, one which is bound to happen after hanging out with some friends from across the country, for like 5 whole days, and playing music covers together

but now i'm having :amaze: ideas :amaze: and i have to get them down somewhere

versioning would obviously be a thing

how can i even consider building such a thing

to be clear, i'm thinking of a very literal 'pinboard' UI where i can arrange and pin lyrics, guitar riffs, drum parts, etc. and then just click them to open them up and read/listen to them, or download them if needed

this seems like something @paeneultima might ask or know the answer to, as well (not to call you out of course) :thounking:

this is a very obscure and possibly niche question but is there a website, maybe like trello, where i can share a 'board' with a select group of other people and post things like snippets of lyrics, riffs, drum parts, etc?

i would love to have a 'junk drawer' of this kind of thing, and to share access to a select group of other people of my choosing

by the way, for those who wanted stickers sent, I think I can get those out tomorrow. I've got to check whether we have stamps - if not, I'll snag some. I think I'll be able to get to that today.

yikes, my one-ish hours that i make for myself before work each day just FLEW today and now it's time to get ready :blobfrowningbig:

yo this 19 hour work day thing is getting too common, wtf

Oh, and I'm releasing my own fork of Mastodon based on my experiences running Friend Camp for a year. It's called Hometown, and you can read more about it here:

github.com/hometown-fork/homet

It's not fully documented yet but it will be. Experienced Mastodon admins should be able to switch over with a minor database migration and minimal fuss.

this has been invalidated by the fact that no one else seems to think so, but hey

i think i might have one of the best tattoo ideas of all time

"i use linux as my operating system," i state proudly to the unkempt, bearded man. he swivels around in his desk chair with a devilish gleam in his eyes, ready to mansplain with extreme precision.
"actually," he says with a grin, "linux is just the kernel. you use GNU+linux."
i don't miss a beat and reply with a smirk, "i use alpine, a distro that doesn't include the GNU coreutils, or any other GNU code. it's linux, but it's not GNU+linux."

the smile quickly drops from the man's face. his body begins convulsing and he foams at the mouth as he drop to the floor with a sickly thud. as he writhes around he screams "I-IT WAS COMPILED WITH GCC! THAT MEANS IT'S STILL GNU!"
coolly, i reply "if windows was compiled with gcc, would that make it GNU?" i interrupt his response with "and work is being made on the kernel to make it more compiler-agnostic. even if you were correct, you won't be for long."

with a sickly wheeze, the last of the man's life is ejected from his body. he lies on the floor, cold and limp. i've womansplained him to death.
