covid19 reminder

hey if you're worried about corona and are trying to self quarantine and stay home and all that stuff, just remember - you can go outside and like enjoy the outdoors still. it's not like disease is floating through the air. get out, get some vitamin d and read a book or something. make some lemonade or some iced tea and enjoy the sun. forget about the state of panic and all that, because you can still *exist*. just watch yourself around others and leave if you feel uncomfortable.

covid19 reminder

@ryanlittlefield this is a great reminder, thank you 💜

covid19 reminder

@checkervest of course, it's super easy to forget, like, you can still leave your home, haha

covid19 reminder

@ryanlittlefield
I guess a lot of people are already expecting the curfew any day now for places with greater spread

@checkervest

covid19 reminder

@Halbeard @ryanlittlefield yeah but a curfew’s probably not going to restrict someone from sitting in their backyard

covid19 reminder

@checkervest
hopefully not. I think that was a reality in wuhan though, with mobs barricading in corona victims.

@ryanlittlefield

That sounds like good advice, but it can literally transfer through the air, or via third-hand touch of a surface.

covid19 reminder

@malin then I guess people just shouldn't do or touch or breathe anything

covid19 reminder

@ryanlittlefield
Hold the sarcasm.

As I said, the original statement can still be good advice, it's just that the part about this not being airborn is incorrect.

covid19 reminder

@malin what i meant was that it's not going to blow down the road to you from the house up the block. or, more correctly, there's a super super super super low chance. if you're within 6 feet of someone, then yeah exercise caution. but other than that, i think you have a pretty good shot.

covid19 reminder

@malin @ryanlittlefield It can travel via gross people fluids that travel through the air, but it's not airborne according to the link. There's a really big difference.

covid19 reminder

@ryanlittlefield I really needed to hear that. Thank you.

covid19 reminder

@ryanlittlefield its so interesting in this way. It isn’t like other natural disasters I have experienced. It’s a beautiful day and it feels like society is shutting down. Those don’t usually go together in the popular imagination

covid19 reminder

@ryanlittlefield Hoping to go for a hike tomorrow, it'll be really nice to de-stress. 💚

covid19 reminder

@ryanlittlefield Thank you! Hope whatever you've got going on this weekend goes just as smooth.

covid19 reminder

@ryanlittlefield i think this may be mixing two things together. If you're just worried about catching it and trying to avoid catching it yeah you can totally go out and enjoy the sun.

But if you're actually self quarantining / self isolating then you're meant to not leave the house for at least 7 days until you're certain you have no advancing symptoms.

covid19 reminder

@mxsiege good point. The advice is for people who don't want to catch the virus, not for people who suspect they may have it.

But good point anyway @ryanlittlefield—we all need the reminder 😀

covid19 reminder

@mxsiege @ryanlittlefield Yep! In this case it would be better to specify "if you're practicing social distancing" that being outside is great.

During SARS in 2003, some health authorities did say if you have to walk your dog during actual isolation or quarantine, you should/could do so in your own enclosed backyard; if you want fresh air use your patio if nobody else in the household/building uses it.

covid19 reminder

@ryanlittlefield

Even if it gets really bad, I plan to hang out on my fire escape and enjoy the coming spring sun.

covid19 reminder

@ryanlittlefield this cannot be said enough times. <3

covid19 reminder

@ryanlittlefield Also: Buy that lemonade from a local place if you're lucky enough to still have a steady income which is unlikely to be affected by this.
